St Andrews Engagement Photography - Benedikt & Brittany
What a gorgeous, gorgeous evening this turned out to be. Having made a quick trip back to the UK from New Zealand to cover some corporate events, graduation shoots and a few oddballs (no offense Jynx the cat!), Benedikt and Brittany were the final date in my diary before I headed back to my parents in Wales for some R&R (and then eventually back onto the plane to finish my stint in NZ).
Benedikt first contacted me at the very beginning of 2023, more than 6 months before he was going to pop the question. I really love when clients have the same intense level of enthusiasm that I have for getting right into the nitty gritty details. We considered tide times, the position of the sun, the context of Brittany's time as a student in St Andrews, and finally worked out what we could do within the bounds of both of our diaries - Benedikt & Brittany were only in St Andrews for a 3-day window, and I myself only in the Northern hemisphere for a month! But the stars aligned, and everything came together perfectly - in golden hour.
The Proposal
As with the buildup to any of my surprise proposals, I needed a cover. This is where the beauty of St Andrews being a university town comes in. I donned my old University of St Andrews Riding Team jacket over my camera harness and blended into a postgraduate barbecue that was conveniently happening (a special shoutout to those postgrads who let me merge into their group as camouflage).
However, all wasn't perfectly well - the spot Benedikt and I had organised for the proposal had been acquired by 3 blissfully unaware teenagers who were playing a type of dodgeball, if you replace the dodgeballs with rocks. Thankfully some closer bystanders clocked what was going on, and managed to shuffle the game out of the way just in time for the big moment.
St Andrews Engagement Photography
Every engagement shoot just gives me more and more reasons to love St Andrews. In just 90 minutes following the proposal, Benedikt, Brittany & I covered the cobble streets, castle ruins, and the accommodation Brittany had stayed in during her time in St Andrews. Very few towns afford us so many luxury photography locations in such close proximity. And these guys even treated me to a Jannetta's ice cream at the end of the shoot (not an obligation for my clients of course, but it's definitely a way to win me over!)
